Get The Picture?

Our Company was started in 1994 and specialized in a variety of frames, artwork, and gifts unique to the northern Outer Banks.  The company grew rapidly over the first couple of years, and we opened our second location in 1996.  By 1999 we had four locations and started designing, manufacturing, and selling our own custom lines of photography, frames, artwork, and clothing.  That trend has continued, and we now stock 80% of our own products.

About Corolla Memory

Not long after opening Get the Picture? customers would come in to admire the original photography hanging in our shop.  Then, the same question started popping up,  “ Can I get a portrait of my family on the beach?”  Thus, the first portrait photographer located in Duck was born. We, then, expanded to Corolla in 1998 becoming the first in that area, as well. Since that moment, we have photographed hundreds of families on the beaches of Duck and Corolla each year.

Our reputation is built on creating portraits that capture the Outer Banks lifestyle and stand the test of time. Our philosophy is to keep it “fun”, which is why our sessions are short and informal.  We do a mix of posed and candid shots to give our clients several options in fulfilling their desired outcome.

Our portraits have a captivating and unique style that artistically reflects our clients' personalities and lifestyles. We like to work with the closely with you to capture the spirit of your family and save your vacation memories forever.  We never advertise and book most of our appointments with repeat clients and the occasional customer that walks by asking “Can I get a portrait of my family on the beach?”  So, please, come in and browse the hundreds of client photographs in our shop.

Biography Jed Davis

Born and raised in Duck, I have a deep appreciation for the unique qualities that the Outer Banks has to offer.  Since childhood I have expressed myself through the images of studio art, design, photography, and painting.  Moving to California in 1988, I graduated from The University of San Diego with degrees in Art and Business.  In 1994, I opened a gallery and gift shop to showcase local artwork in Duck, NC.  Since then I have been photographing my favorite areas in and around the Outer Banks.  My experiences as a landscape photographer have taught me that great images are everywhere.  Finding and capturing those images on film motivates me to try new ideas and cast away from the ordinary.  Applying this strategy to portrait photography results in images that mesh a family within the setting, not simply sticking people in front of a beautiful background.  I shoot a maximum of two sittings a day because I only like the lighting during a brief 90 minute period before sunset.  My sittings are short and informal which allows for maximum spontaneity while minimizing redundancy and boredom in my customers.  I shoot all of my clients outside and on location so each session varies widely.  Factors such as weather, sunlight, setting, and the number of participants all change daily forcing me as a photographer to continually come up with fresh and creative solutions to insure a successful photograph. The desire to find fresh solutions and a fundamental love of portrait photography drive me to do my best work with every shot.
